Finally upgraded to a P100 respirator

We switched from basic dust masks to a proper P100 half face respirator last month and the difference is night and day, we been running it on stainless and aluminum projects where fume exposure is high
Replacements aren't cheap but beats breathing metal dust, and my dad said he noticed not getting metallic taste in his mouth at the end of the day anymore, which he'd just gotten used to over the years and probably not a good sign that he was tasting it in the first place. Well they grew up traditional farmers so a lot of the new gear didn't matter much to them until when they started becoming popular

The metallic taste thing is a wake up call. If you're tasting it, you've been breathing way too much of it. Old school guys tend to ignore PPE until something forces the change, good thing you guys got one

I think it's wise to switch to a P100 half face respirator, it would improve your safety and comfort, and would definitely improve productivity

nice upgrade! you know, it's important to Invest in proper respiratory protection like a P100 half face respirator for metalworking. I do it for the health benefit

As a long time welder and fabricator I learned early that good respirators are needed. Working in a shipyard, I burned a lot of stick wire in my younger days and remember the black buggers in my nose. As soon as I started wearing a respirator I had less sinus infections. I saw the old guys gasping for breath as we walked out at night. When we switched over to mostly mig it made a huge difference. Fume extractors had not become common place but exhaust fans did help with the smoke. A student of mine is welding now and uses a full face positive pressure mask with forced air. How times have changed. If I do any grinding, sanding , painting or welding my mask is on now. On a few bandsaw jobs, I wore a respirator because of the fine dust. My lung capacity isn't great but it hasn't got worse over the years either.
