Square ground chain for reaming?

Lately, I've been practicing my reaming cuts but still getting pinched way too often with a round-filed chain. I just realized square might side-cut better and help open the cut. Anyone used a square chain for this? Curious if it's worth doing the switch.

I've had good success reaming with a round file, no problems yet. It just takes some practice. Don't worry if it feels tough at the beginning, especially with smaller logs. They can be tricky, but you'll figure it out.

Anyone else have tips or tools they like to use for tight corners or smaller cuts?

What bar and powerhead are you running, think it can handle a square-ground chain's more aggressive bite, or would that just make control harder during those reaming cuts?

Square chain cuts more aggressively and removes chips quickly, which helps prevent pinching problems. Its sharper corners dig in deeper, and the side plates do a better job of clearing away debris compared to round chains. It's definitely worth a try, but keep in mind that square chains need more accurate filing and tend to dull quicker. Just be sure your bar groove can accommodate the different drive link shape.
