TimberPro buck saw tensioner swap

I got an old TimberPro buck saw from my uncle. It runs, but the chain keeps getting loose and won't stay tight. I think the tensioner's messed up. Never fixed one before, any idea where to get parts? Is it easy swap? Thanks a bunch!

If it's the tensioner, then no need to fret, they're usually cheap and easy to swap

Got an old TimberPro too from my dad's shed, and the chain tensioner gave me grief until I swapped out the screw and spring. Bailey's had what I needed, but it helped a lot to have the exact model number handy. Is yours one of the older 500 series or something else? You can also check Saw Salvage online

I’ve replaced a couple of tensioners on older saws and it’s one of the more beginner-friendly fixes. Take the bar and chain off, look behind where the bar mounts, and you’ll see the adjuster screw and spring setup. Once you slide the old one out the new one pretty much drops in place. Just be careful when tightening... since cheap aftermarket screws can strip fast. If you’re handy with tools, you’ll be back up and running in under an hour.

Before you buy a new tensioner, I suggest checking a few things first. Are the bar studs bent or are the nuts stripped? Is the little pin or tab on the tensioner that fits into the bar broken? Often, it's one of those causing that issues on older saws. But if you do need the part, check major online saw parts suppliers for NOS or aftermarket assemblies as well as eBay. Swapping the tensioner is usually simple. It's helpful to snap a few pictures as you go, and you'll be set!
