Winch options for Timberjack 240A

I recently picked up a Timberjack 240A and I want to get a winch mounted on it, did some little research and asking around and the Gearmatic 3315 keeps coming up as the match for this model. Before I go trying to find one , can anyone confirm if that's really the only winch that fits, or if there are other options that can work

Won't want to box myself into a corner if there are alternatives out there

Nice pickup on the 240A! I've been fixing up a 225D myself and had the same winch question. The Gearmatic 3315 is popular, but I've seen people use the 19A or even a PACCAR winch with some changes to the brackets. It depends on your setup and if you're good with tools. If you've got a welder, you've got more choices. Just make sure the winch fits your PTO.

On the hydraulic side, I ran into flow issues on a similar setup when trying to power a heavier winch, so it's worth checking the pump specs before committing. Has anyone here upgraded their pump or added a secondary one to get around that?

Smart move on the Timberjack 240A! The Gearmatic 3315 is the consensus choice because it was the common factory-installed winch, so it's generally a direct bolt-on. This makes finding parts and mounting hardware straightforward. But you're not stuck! Similar-sized Carco or John Deere winches can definitely be adapted. You just need to match the PTO input shaft and the winch's mounting bolt pattern to your skidder's frame. If you go with a non-standard winch, expect to do a little more work on sourcing or fabricating an adapter plate. You can stick with the 3315 for the easiest install, or just be ready for some custom fitting with an alternative.

Oh yeah, I hadn't thought about flow issues yet, been more focused on just finding the right winch to fit, my late reply to this thread, I think I'm finally ready to work on the timberjack
@treep3ople do you remember what pump specs you were dealing with when you ran into problems? I should probably check mine before I commit to anything
